Mission & Messages

The mission of the Spinhead Foundation is to increase both rider and driver safety by alerting all those present that an event involving bicycles is taking place.

The shape of the SPINHEAD™ safety alert signs easily reminds motorized vehicles that a CYCLIST is first and foremost a REAL PERSON who can be seriously injured or killed when struck by a motorized vehicle at even slow speeds.

These memorable guides serve FIVE very important roles whether standing alone or amidst a huge crowd:

1. Keep live volunteers out of harms way during events
2. Provide key support when there are not enough volunteers
3. Identify an important location or change of direction quickly
4. Be highly-visible guides so that no one gets lost or confused
5. Notify and route the general public in a cost-effective way

Both riders and drivers need to be able grasp key instructions quickly and know with certainty that they are following the proper route and corresponding detours. Confusion creates much more than fender benders... it creates painful injuries to one or more riders!

Without prior notification of a specific cycling route or an effective alert mechanism, unexpected delays or road closures often cause driver impatience, hostility, and lasting anger.
